When importing data into our platform, the goal is to ensure that each piece of information is accurately matched and updated according to the correct company profile. This guide will help you understand what data is needed for us to make sure that data is precise and validated ✅


Needed data points

Down below you will find a list of the data points needed and why they're crucial to achieve correct mapping:

Company Name

The name of the company you are importing certification data on. You should provide the same name that the company has provided you with.

Unique ID

A unique identifier (ID) for the establishment you are importing certification on. The unique ID should be non-immutable to ensure that succeeding changes to any data for the establishment are matched correctly, thus avoiding duplicating data.

VAT Number (Optional)

The VAT (Value Added Tax) number is a unique identifier used in many countries for tax purposes. We understand that not all countries operate with VAT numbers, which is why this data point is optional. It is however highly recommended because it's unique making it perfect for mapping data to the correct company when multiple companies share similar or identical names, addresses, etc.

Full Website URL (Optional)

The website/domain name of the establishment you're importing certification data on. We understand that not all establishments might have a website, which is why this data point is optional. It is however highly recommended, as it makes the sign-up process on BeCause easier for the establishment.

Latitude & Longitude

The latitude and longitude coordinates for the establishment you are importing certification on - in Decimal Degrees (very important). These can be found via Google Maps. Geographic coordinates allow for precise location matching, and it's crucial for distinguishing companies with similar names in different locations.

Address details

These details ensure accurate geographical mapping and are essential for local and global business operations, enabling us to differentiate between entities with similar names across regions.

  • Street name + number:

    The street name and number of the establishment you are importing data on.

  • Zip Code:
    The zip code of the establishment you are importing data on.

  • City:

    The city of the establishment you are importing data on.

  • Country name:

    The country name of the establishment you are importing data on.

Certification data

These timestamps help verify the current status of a certification, ensuring that the data we map is correct and stays that way.

  • Standard Issued Date UTC:

    The issued date of the certification for the establishment you are importing data on. Accepted format examples: “2021-12-09”, “2021-12-09T17:37:39.282109”

  • Standard Expiration Date UTC:

    The expiration date of the certification for the establishment you are importing data on. Accepted format examples: “2021-12-09”, “2021-12-09T17:37:39.282109”

  • Certification level or custom metrics (optional):

    Any level or custom metric that you have added when you created the certification in the BeCause platform.


Sample data file

To streamline the data import process and avoid errors, we strongly recommend starting with our sample file as a foundation for your import every time. The sample file contains all relevant columns and the header names already match what the import tool expects, ensuring you provide all the necessary information in the correct format:
