The BeCause platform makes the process of requesting and reporting on sustainability data easy directly in the platform. The portfolio owner, hotel chain or corporate office has the ability to send out a request to you as a hotel and you have full overview of what has been assigned to you, the deadline for the request and the ability to complete the assigned request.
Updated on 6 July 2026. The application interface has been refreshed. If you were mid-way through an application, your data and files are intact. See What's new in Data Collection and Applications for a quick tour of what changed.
Overview of assigned frameworks/requests
There are two ways you can see what has been assigned to you on BeCause:
Tasks hub
The first page you see when you log in is the "Tasks" hub, where you can get a quick glance of what you have assigned to you or in progress (e.g. an application for certification, an assigned framework, etc.).
On this page you will see if you have been assigned or requested to complete a framework:
My data collection
In the My data collection area of the platform, you can see any framework you've either started yourself, or that has been assigned to you by your portfolio owner, hotel chain, or corporate office. Tabs separate your Current frameworks and Completed frameworks, so you always know where you stand.
Below is an example: the "GBTA Sustainable Procurement Standards for Hotels" framework has been assigned to a hotel profile.
Completing a requested/assigned framework
In order to complete an assigned or requested data framework, you will start by clicking "Open" on the card in your "My data collection" page.
Once inside, you'll see the framework's topics, sub-topics, and questions laid out. Your changes save automatically as you go; there's no separate Save button.
Navigating with the topic list
The framework is organised into topics and sub-topics. You'll see them as a persistent list on the left side of the screen.
Click any topic to jump to it. If a topic has sub-topics, they'll be nested underneath the topic.
The counter next to each topic (for example, "Biodiversity 2/2" or "Carbon Footprint and Consumption Data 5/15") rolls up: it reflects both the questions in that topic and everything nested underneath.
There's no setup. It's just there.
Anatomy of a question
Each question is presented as a card in the centre of the screen. Here's what you'll see, top to bottom:
1. The status circle on the left
A small circle to the left of the question shows whether it's been answered.
Empty circle: unanswered

Filled circle with a checkmark: answered

2. The "Pre-filled" badge (only on some questions)
Sometimes you might find a Pre-filled badge on the question level. This is can be if your corporate office has ingested data on your behalf for something they have been able to answer centrally or something you might have already reported on elsewhere.
Pre-filled answers count as answered, but review them before completing the framework. Check whether the value is still accurate for this reporting period.
3. The question text and the red asterisk,
The question is shown in the centre of the card. A red asterisk at the start means the question is required: you'll need to answer it, or omit it with a justification, before you can submit the application.
4. Your answer options
Depending on the question, you'll see different input types:
Yes / No radio buttons
A dropdown for multiple-choice questions (for example, "Not applicable" as one of the options)
A text field for free-text answers
A number field for numeric data (utility consumption, room counts, and so on)
Select the option that applies, or type your answer. Your changes save automatically.
5. The Omit question toggle
If a question doesn't apply to your hotel, toggle Omit question on. You'll be asked to explain why the question doesn't apply. Add your explanation and save. Whoever assigned the framework uses this note when reviewing your response, so be specific.
6. Inline summary chips at the bottom
A small row of count chips at the bottom of each question card shows at a glance:
Clock: how many past answers exist for this question from earlier applications
Paperclip: how many files are attached
Link: how many related answers apply
A count of zero means nothing is there yet. To view or add to any of these, open the matching icon in the inline summary chips or the right-rail (see the next section).
The tools panel on the right
The right side of the screen has a column of icons. Each opens a contextual panel for the question you're currently viewing.
Top to bottom on every framework question:
Icon | Panel name | What it does |
Progress pill
| Progress overview | Required questions answered, percentage complete, and how many are still missing across the framework |
Bulb
| Guidance | AI explanation of the question |
Link
| Related answers | Previously-given answers from elsewhere in the platform that may apply to this question |
Clock
| Past answers | What you answered in earlier reporting periods |
Paperclip | Files | Upload supporting files and proofs for this question. Drag a file into the panel or click to choose one; it will be attached to the question |
Change log
| Change log | Audit trail of every change made to this question, who made it, and when |
Filters and finding unanswered questions
Filters sit above the question list.
Requirement: narrow to required-only, optional-only, or all questions

Answer status: narrow to answered, unanswered, omitted or all questions

To pick up where you left off, set Answer status to Unanswered. The framework will show only questions you haven't answered yet, grouped by topic.
